Our Philosophy
We share Saint Mary’s Health Care’s commitment to provide health care for all persons, regardless of their ability to pay. We believe that no one should go without needed health care because they cannot afford it. We are committed to providing the highest standard of health care with hospitality, respect, and compassion.

Our History
Browning Claytor is located at Hall and Madison to respond to a community long in need of local health care services. Dr. Browning and Dr. Claytor served this community for many years in the early 1900s. Dr. Claytor was a leader in the community and was named “Physician of the Year” for Michigan. Dr. Browning pioneered the idea of well-baby clinics. He provided his services to all, regardless of ability to pay. Our Health Center name was chosen to honor them for their work. We strive to carry on that work in our community.

What is Family Practice?
Family Practice physicians are trained to consider the whole person, the young, the aged, and everyone in between, as well as the family and the community in which they live. Family physicians are able to treat most health problems during office visits. With an added emphasis on wellness, your family physician is able to advise you on tests, procedures, and general health information that may help keep you healthy.

In addition to family practice services, Browning Claytor Health Center is also pleased to offer the following services and programs:

  • Women Infant and Children (WIC)
  • Maternal Support Services (MSS)
  • Infant Support Services (ISS)
  • Lactation Specialist and Breast Feeding Classes

Our health care team includes doctors, nurses, office staff, and a social worker. The social worker is available for counseling, as well as information and referral to community resources. Our team is committed to providing quality health care by knowing who you are and your community. You will know who your doctor is and your doctor will know you.

Appointments
Patients are seen by appointment in order to minimize waiting time. We do sometimes need to work sick patients into the schedule, and apologize for any delay this may cause.

If you would like to schedule an appointment for yourself or a family member, please call our office at 685-8300. If you need to cancel an appointment, please call and let the office staff know at least 24 hours in advance, so that we may give your time to another person. We appreciate your courtesy.

Information to Bring with You
Each time you visit your physician, please bring a list of all medicines you are currently taking and your insurance card. If your child is being seen, please bring the child’s immunization record.

Referrals
As a Family Practice we are qualified to treat many of your health concerns. When a consultation with a specialist does become necessary, our referral coordinator will help you and your physician find a source for the services you need.

Prescriptions and Refills
First, read the label on your medication. If there are additional refills indicated on the label, go directly to the pharmacist who originally filled the prescription. If you need another prescription, please call our office prescription line – 685-8029. Please allow 48 hours for us to contact your pharmacy.

Emergency Care
If you have a life threatening emergency, please call 911 or go directly to Saint Mary’s Emergency Department. For other medical emergencies, please call our office at 685-8300. A physician is on call 24 hours a day. Your call will be returned by a nurse or physician. Please call our office following a visit to the Emergency Department so we can provide any follow-up care you may need.

Hospital Affiliations

Fees, Billing, and Insurance
We accept most major health insurance, including HMOs, PPOs, Care Choices, Medicare, and Medicaid. If you do not have any health insurance, we have a sliding payment scale.

Patients are asked to apply for state and/or federal assistance prior to sliding payment. This is based on your income and family size. If you have questions about the eligibility requirements for the sliding payment scale, please talk with our billing coordinator.
