PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency

The ASHP Accredited PGY-1 Residency at Saint Mary’s Health Care is designed to develop the knowledge, experience, creativity and leadership today’s pharmacists need to cope with tomorrow’s challenges.

Program’s Purpose statement:

Pharmacists completing this residency program will be confident and compassionate health care providers of direct patient care. They will become a core component of an interdisciplinary team responsible for achieving positive patient outcomes using medical informatics. They will be able to effectively communicate with and educate both patients and other members of the health care team about drug related issues. They will demonstrate skills in managing various tasks, projects and be able to manage and improve the medication use process and contribute to drug formulary decisions. They will demonstrate ethical and professional characteristics. They will exercise leadership and practice management skills.

Residents will also benefit from learning about the unique brand of health care practiced at Saint Mary’s. Here, we place equal emphasis on leading edge practices and a compassionate, caring experience. It’s health care with Something More.

The Pharmacy Practice Residency program at Saint Mary’s offers rotations in the following areas. Certain core rotations are required to meet the educational outcomes of the program.

  • Internal Medicine
  • Psychiatry
  • Neurology
  • Managed Care
  • Drug Information/Medication Safety
  • Consultant Pharmacy
  • Home Infusion Clinical Research
  • Critical Care
  • Hematology/Oncology
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Infectious Disease
  • Outpatient Retail Pharmacy
  • Pharmacy Administration

Other benefits of the resident program include a clinical staffing requirement, two weeks paid vacation, health/vision/dental benefits and conference attendance. Two residency position are available each year. Residency training usually begins in July and concludes the following June. However, start time may be negotiable. The program has received ASHP accreditation.
